Branding and Headshot Photography
Let’s dive right into why branding and headshot photography is so important for your business. Your profile photo or business photo is often the first impression people will have of you while meeting you online. A professional photo can showcase your personality and style. Clients love seeing the face behind a brand. A great photo is key in helping potential clients get to know you.
Your new headshot can be used for many things such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and your website’s ‘About’ page, your email signature, Tinder as well as press releases and media kits.
In today’s competitive market, establishing a strong brand presence is paramount. Among the myriad of strategies available, one of the most impactful yet often underrated tools is branding photography. Beyond just pretty pictures, it’s about encapsulating the soul of your brand in visuals. Let’s delve into why branding photography is essential and how it can elevate your business.
What Is Branding Photography?
Branding photography is more than merely snapping images of your products, team, or office space. It’s about crafting a visual narrative that resonates with your audience, conveying your brand’s story, values, and identity. This type of photography goes beyond aesthetics; it encapsulates the essence of your brand and builds a visual language that speaks to your target market.
What to wear and how to prepare:
Figuring out what to wear can be the most difficult part of your shoot! But don’t worry, I am here to help…
Ask yourself, if a client saw me in this outfit, would they recognize me? Would they want to work with me and do they think I look put together? Is what I am wearing a representation of who I am or my business? Hopefully this is a BIG YES!
Branding colors are always great to work into wardrobe or any accessories, this helps tie in a cohesive look on your social media platforms as well as website.
Is your message polished, casual, fun, approachable and professional? Consider some buzzwords that are important for you to convey visually.
Is there texture and depth to your outfit choice? Do you stand out or provide intrigue or are you hiding in that outfit? Too baggy clothes never look good in photos. Textured elements such a denim, tulle, leather or chunky sweaters add a great visual appeal, as do mixing in textures with accessories such as gold, silver or rose gold if used in your branding colors.
When you put your photo shoot outfit on ask yourself. Am I comfortable and confident with how I feel in this? If you are uncomfortable or second-guessing your choice, that will show in your photos and take away from the fabulous boss lady that you are! Can you sit comfortably in your outfit? Can you raise your hands above your head? Do you have the correct bra/undies to wear underneath? Nothing worse than panty lines or bra showing and this cannot be photo shopped. Choose your under pinnings carefully!
Solid colors and subtle prints work best. Usually big bold prints and small stripes do not photograph well. Speaking of colors did you know that color has a powerful subconscious effect on every part of our lives, without even saying a word; an understanding of color meanings in business gives us an invaluable tool to get the best response to your marketing and promotional efforts.
Trendy items (this includes jewelry) can date your photos quickly and this is why I suggest classic for the most part. Especially if you are going to use the photos on your website or brochures. Solid colors typically do not get dated as quickly so consider choosing solids.
A few items that can change up your look for a few photos: Sunglasses, scarf, jacket, sweater, clutch or cute purse. However, leave your regular pocketbook at home or in the car so you don’t have to worry about it being set down. Any items you do bring put in a tote bag to make it easy to carry.
