Now that you tied the knot, let’s relive the proposal. Please tell us all about it…
We were in Hawaii for our annual Muil Family vacation. As most Muil vacations begin, we spent most of the morning soaking up the sun and enjoying the beautiful island. On the way home from the beach he asked me if I wanted to go and get my nails done, even though he knew I got them done before the trip. Not thinking anything about it, I just brushed off his solicitous offer. When we got back to the room we decided that we would eat at one of our favorite spots, Browns Beach House. The sits right on the beach with the most magnificent views.
While on the phone with the restaurant, Brooks interrupted me to ask for a later reservation, which interferes with the time the sunsets in Hawaii. I am a firm believer that when one is in Hawaii a sunset should never be missed. Although he could see my disappointment, he was still persistent on an 8:00 reservation. In true Kelly fashion, I told him there was no point in going out to dinner. Despite my sassy attitude, he kindly asked me to get ready for dinner by 6:00 because we were going to go watch the sunset at the Panicle for some pre-dinner cocktails… or so I thought. I rushed to get ready and was absolutely determined to get a picture of “the green flash” legend says the flash happens in Hawaii when the sun hits the horizon.
As a family, Dad, Mom, Brother, and Sister-in-Law, we rushed to the point with a camera in tow. I love to capture photographs of the sunset, and that night was absolutely perfect. There was not a cloud in the sky, so I was thrilled to capture a clear shot. However, my photo-shoot with God’s Creation was interrupted when Brooks was behind me repeatedly saying my name. I turned around, and there he was, on one knee. With the most beautiful ring I have ever seen, he asked me to marry him and I said “YES!”
We all gathered around, celebrated as a family, and returned back to our house. Brooks and I then went to our romantic dinner alone. It was the most perfect way to start this incredible chapter in our lives. I have always said to Brooks that I wanted my family to be with us when we got engaged… and he could not have pulled off a more perfect moment! The surprises continued the next morning, with a private helicopter tour of the Big Island. In which we were able to see all the magnificent waterfalls and even some lava! ~Kelly
